Nick Larochelle

I was born and raised in a Roman Catholic family. We would get up early and go to mass every Sunday. I remember sitting on those uncomfortable wooden pews trying as hard as I could to say awake. As a kid, I had been taught to believe in the Church's teachings; in doing so, my soul would be saved. But these beliefs never truly set in, and eventually, my family and I stopped going. It has been many years since I have entered another place of worship, let alone gone to Sunday mass.

In the fall of 2020, I began to explore the relationship between religion and physical spaces. Concentrating primarily in the Manchester area, my goal was to study and survey these places of worship and perhaps discover my connection to these places. Through photographs, I recognize these structures for their timeless beauty. I can understand things better in a picture; they enable me to look deeper into questions about the world and life. This, I hope, will also begin to lend some perspective on my departure from the faith and where my current religious beliefs stand.
